Kidney sensitization and awareness campaign in antenatal and postnatal clinics in health facilities in IMO State to mark world kidney day celebration. Brought by THE IYA FOUNDATION INC USA and GERIATRIC CARE AND VULNERABLE SUPPORT INITIATIVE NIGERIA.

The collaboration has become a yearly even to create awareness of the causes, management and treatment options of people suffering chronic kidney diseases (CKD).

This year's even fell on the same date with international women's day making W. H. O. To make the theme Kidney Diseases and Women's health. Since women are at high risk of 14% more than their male counterpart.

Last year we marked the even in collaboration with fmc Owerri IMO State where we took students from 5 secondary schools to show them how a kidney patient looks like and what dialysis is all about then a symposium was held to educate the hospital community and students from selected schools.

Being a month event, subsequently the campaign went to various secondary schools in the state to sensitise and educate young boys and girls on lifestyle mortification and how to prevent kidney diseases.

Schools we partner with includes Owerri Girls secondary school, Ikenegbu girls secondary school, government college Owerri, Alvana secondary school Owerri.

This year event is centered on kidney Diseases and women's health therefor we went straight to the grassroots in antenatal and postnatal units in general hospitals, health centers and indeed the communities to sensitise and carry out free screening and testing for diabetes, BP, Malaria, asymptomatic bacteriuria, and over weight amongst women of child bearing age group.

The connection of pregnancy and the kidney was stress with strict Reference to urinary track infection (UTI).

The even began in general hospital Awo-Omamma in Oru East LGA on the 14 of March. Izumbe in Oguta LGA will get their turn 30th March.

We partner with the Honorable member representing Oru East LGA on the state house of Assembly to reach out to these women Hon. Kendu John.

My name is Andreas George Adikibe the Executive Director and founder of Geriatric Care And Vulnerable Support Initiative.
